There's nothing "old" about these burrs or the grinder. 98mm is not a "newer" thing or necessarily better than 80mm, but rather a different thing for different tastes. Tastewise the big flat burrs are so much better then the conical burrs with light roasts. And for pourover the EG-1 is far superior. I can name more then 10 other points why the EG-1 is much better but these are the main ones. Totally different grinders.
